We have a state of the art 11m climbing wall and a bouldering room to offer climbing courses, taster or refresher sessions, kids clubs and assessments.

Climbing Assessment

Already an experienced climber and able to put on a harness, tie in, and belay safely? Have an instructor sign you off as having the ability to use the climbing wall in a safe and competent manner.

  • Non-members - £10
  • Members - £7.50

When

Running for just half an hour, an assessment is mandatory before gaining access to the climbing facilities.Ìý

Climbing Assessments run every Wednesday evening at 20:00 during term time and are bookable online, by calling 01224 263666 or visiting our reception desk.

During the summer, or outwith term time, please contact rgusportenquiries@rgu.ac.uk to arrange an assessment or for more information.

Buddies

Assessed climbers over the age of 18 are eligible to sign in up to two non-assisted buddies aged 5 years and above.

Those who have not been climbing assessed by an 91̽»¨ SPORT instructor cannot belay under any circumstances.

Validity

Climbing Assessments are valid for 2 years from date of achievement. Climbers will be required to resit climbing assessments upon expiration before resuming use of our climbing facilities unless suitable proof of using the facility frequently can be provided.

Climbers must have a valid Climbing Wall Assessment on their account to use our climbing wall facilities or be signed in by someone who holds a current climbing wall assessment as per our buddy system.


Bouldering room

Why not try something a little different and get yourself on our bouldering wall. Anyone can come in and use our bouldering wall, all you have to do isÌýactivate the free ‘bouldering registration’ membership and complete the waiver form. Bouldering registration can be completed in person at 91̽»¨ SPORT Reception.

You will then be able to use the bouldering room by signing in and paying at reception.

Booking

You are no longer required to book in for climbing or bouldering sessions, but please check opening times before travelling to our facility to make sure it's available. We advise that customers call reception on 01224 263666 before travelling, especially at weekends, in case the wall is closed for parties.

Climbing Clubs

Club Descriptions

Beginner's club (Cubs)

All about having fun and keeping them entertained! Max capacity of 6 and this is for kids between the ages of 5 and 7-years-old this will be a mixture of bouldering and main wall climbing.

Beginner's Plus

For those 8 years + who have never climb before. Suitable as a progression from beginners for those who may be too young or small to move straight into intermediates.

Intermediate club (Wildcats)

This level is based more around technique and looking to progress them in to the advanced clubs when possible. Reminding them of technique and starting to teach them more that will help them advance into teen climbing. They should have completed a Learn to Climb course or be deemed competent to join this by an instructor before booking in.

Advanced Climbing (Jaguars)

For advanced climbers who can climb and belay efficiently and safely. Participants need to have attended the intermediate club first or been assessed by a climbing instructor prior to entering this club level.

Teen Climb

Suitable for 13-17 yrs, our other clubs can vary in age across levels, teen climb gives climbers the opportunity to climb with peers their own age, this club is suitable for all levels of climbing ability.

Block Dates

Blocks run in either 8 week or 12 week depending on school term dates. Blocks can be booked by calling reception on 01224 263666. Please note, your child will have to attend a taster before joining a club, so we can ensure we get the correct level of club for them.

Climbing Drop-Ins

Drop-in sessions are a great chance to come along to try something new or an opportunity for kids to climb outside of club time. Suitable for all abilities.

Climbing drop-ins for 5 to 16 year olds

  • Great chance to try climbing first before joining one of our clubs or an opportunity for kids to climb outside of club time.
  • 13:00 - 14:00 two Saturdays a month

Adult Drop-In sessions

  • Great chance to try something new with 91̽»¨, instructor led sessions ideal for those new to climbing
  • 19:00 – 20:00
  • One Thursday monthly

Please note: Discount night is Tuesday evening and only applies to pay-as-you-go bouldering & climbing sessions that are not instructor led.

These prices are per person per session,Ìýone person should book online and additional people pay on arrival.

Group Bookings

We can provide external group bookings for a variety of events including birthday parties, scout and cub bookings, football teams and many more.

Restrictions

If any courses are running or if we have a private booking, they will have priority of lines. You may be asked to move from a line if it is specifically needed. If any big events are happening, we will try to let you know in advance on our Facebook page.
